A Cozy Winter Elopement at Boston City Hall | Mae + Cate

Elopements

Some wedding days are grand and elaborate. Others are quiet, intentional, and deeply personal. Mae and Cate’s winter elopement at Boston City Hall was the kind of day that proves you don’t need a ballroom to create something unforgettable.

From the start, their vision was simple: just the two of them, their closest people, and a celebration that felt warm against the chill of a New England winter. As a Boston Documentary Style Wedding Photographer, intimate days like this are some of my favorites to capture. No distractions. No pressure. Just love, exactly as it is.

The Ceremony: Boston City Hall

There’s something beautifully poetic about choosing Boston City Hall for an elopement. Its striking architecture, clean lines, and city energy created the perfect contrast to the softness of Mae and Cate’s connection. Outside, the winter air was crisp, and inside, there was this calm stillness as they prepared to say their vows.

They kept things intimate, exchanging heartfelt promises in a quiet ceremony surrounded by a small circle of loved ones. There were happy tears, hand squeezes, and the kind of laughter that comes from pure nerves and excitement intertwined.

As an queer Wedding Photographer, witnessing two brides step into marriage with such confidence and tenderness never gets old. Representation matters. Celebrating queer love in spaces like Boston City Hall, in the heart of the city, feels powerful and affirming.

Afterward, we stepped outside for portraits against the iconic concrete backdrop. Taking a few family photos and then some of just Cate and Mae.

The Reception: Warren Tavern

From city hall to cozy tavern, the celebration continued at Warren Tavern, a place that holds special meaning for Mae’s family, since her aunt is a manager there. Choosing Warren Tavern wasn’t just about convenience, it was about connection.

The historic charm, glowing candlelight, and intimate dining space made it feel like a warm hug after the cold city streets. Guests gathered close, sharing stories, raising glasses, and savoring a meal that felt more like a family lunch than a formal reception.
