A Romantic Winter Wedding at Willowdale Estate | Lizzie + Julie

Weddings

Where do I even start?! There are some weddings that linger with you, not just because of the stunning venue or aesthetic decor, but because of the people.

Lizzie and Julie’s wedding at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, Massachusetts was one of those days. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this was more than just a celebration. It was a heartfelt reflection of their love, their community, and the joy they bring to everyone around them. As a Boston Documentary Style Wedding Photographer, I live for weddings like this. Honest moments, genuine emotion, and a story that unfolds naturally, it was everything I aim to capture.

The Venue: Willowdale Estate

Nestled in the heart of the Bradley Palmer State Park, Willowdale Estate feels like a secret garden tucked away from the bustle of the world. Its ivy-covered stone mansion, and warm, historic charm made the perfect backdrop for Lizzie and Julie’s winter wedding. Every corner of the estate offered something beautiful, it’s the perfect venue for any season. Getting Ready Lizzie and Julie chose to get ready separately, surrounded by their closest friends and family. There was laughter, a few happy tears, and a calming excitement in the air. I took a documentary approach here, letting the moments unfold naturally without too much direction. That’s the magic of working as a documentary wedding photographer—capturing memories without interrupting them. The first look happened just outside the estate’s garden gate, where the afternoon light filtered through the trees. The moment they saw each other was pure magic—emotional, tender, and completely unposed. It was one of those scenes you can’t fake, and I felt honored to witness it.

A Celebration of Love and Community

The ceremony took place at Willowdale’s sunroom, lit up my candles. Lizzie and Julie wrote their own vows, and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. As an LGBTQ Wedding Photographer, documenting queer love stories holds a special place in my heart. Representation matters, and it’s powerful to see LGBTQ couples celebrated with the same joy, respect, and tradition that every couple deserves. From the heartfelt speeches during the reception to the packed dance floor, I aimed to capture the night with a mixture of flash photography while also embracing the ambiant lighting. Their guests didn’t just attend, they celebrated. And every smile, every toast, and every spontaneous dance move told a piece of Lizzie and Julie’s story.

Final Thoughts

Weddings like Lizzie and Julie’s remind me why I do what I do. These aren’t just photos, they’re memories, preserved. As a Boston Documentary Style Wedding Photographer, my goal is always to tell your story authentically and with heart. To Lizzie and Julie: thank you for trusting me to capture your day. Your love is something truly special, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.
